Advanced Silicon unveils new "all-in-one" products for controlling small-sized TFT-LCDs



In line with its ambitious roadmap in the area of control electronics for LCD displays, Advanced Silicon today announced two new ASICs, the ASTLC5502A and the ASTLC5505A, intended to drive small-sized active-matrix displays (typ. 1.5" - 3.5") used in digital still cameras and video handheld applications.

 

Both the ASTLC5502A and the ASTLC5505A are single-chip systems integrating, on a same substrate, several functions currently achieved with separate chips:

 

- timing controller supporting up to 8 video timings (among which CCIR 656 (BT.656) for the ASTLC5505A)

- source driver (288-channels for the ASTLC5502A and 480-channels for the ASTLC5505A)

- gate driver (240-channels)

- several power management blocks

 

Operating from a low-voltage power supply (typ. 3.3V) with few external components, both ICs also generate the high-voltage supplies (+/- 12.5V) for the internal gate driver, the modulated voltage for the common electrode and the PWM control signal for the panel backlight. Several system parameters are configurable either with control pins or through a serial interface.

 

With these circuits, Advanced Silicon strengthens its leading position in the field of electronic solutions for active-matrix displays and demonstrates, once again, its ability to develop advanced monolithic mixed-mode systems using HV-CMOS processes. The ASTLC5502A and ASTLC5505A pave the way to Advanced Silicon's next-generation products, namely single-chip solutions for mobile phone displays.
