New dual regulator for graphic cards
The ASPMT100xA is Advanced Silicon's first standalone ASIC for power management purposes. It includes two regulators - a synchronous rectified buck DC-DC converter and a low dropout linear regulator - that drive external low-cost N-channel MOSFETs embedded in feedback loops. Having the transistors and filters external to the chip allows the controllers to be used in a wide variety of input/output voltages and load current conditions for increased utility. Furthermore, the stability and noise rejection of the filters can be accurately adjusted for a specific application.
The ASPMT100xA operates from a dual supply (a 12V "high-voltage" supply and a 3.3V/5V "low voltage" supply). The input voltage can range between 3.3V-5V whereas the regulated outputs are fully adjustable down to 0.8V and maintain an accuracy of ± 2% over the operating temperature range. The circuit also offers protection features like soft-start and output under- and over-voltage detections.
The ASPMT100xA comes in 4 different versions depending on the operating frequency of the PWM controller (300kHz or 600kHz) and on the value of the "low-voltage" supply (3.3V or 5V). The system designer may choose the version which best suits its application in terms of cost, external component selection and performance.
